Asian Business & Financial Data Tools — China, HK, SG, JP, IN, KR

Reading Time: 10 minutes

Reading Time: 8 minutes

Structured data tools for the markets Western aggregators undercover. Built by NexGenData — bilingual coverage of mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, India, Korea, and the rest of APAC.

Why structured Asian business data is hard to get

If you cover Asian markets seriously, you already know the pain. The data exists — China’s Eastmoney has tick-level A-share quotes, Singapore’s BizFile+ has every UEN-registered entity, India’s MCA has every CIN filing, Hong Kong’s Land Registry has every property transaction since the 1990s — but it sits behind Chinese-only interfaces, Japanese half-width katakana forms, geo-blocked CDNs, CAPTCHA walls, and aggregators that charge USD $20,000+ per seat per year for what is, ultimately, free public information.

Western terminals (Bloomberg, FactSet, S&P Capital IQ) cover the headline names — Tencent, Alibaba, Samsung, TSMC, Reliance — but the long tail of mid-caps, the ChiNext biotech listings, the Singapore-incorporated holding companies, the Indian MCA Form 22 filings, and the Xiaohongshu consumer-trend data are either absent, stale, or hidden behind premium add-ons. And if your strategy depends on actually reading mainland Chinese filings, you need either a bilingual analyst or a pipeline that handles Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and the occasional pinyin transliteration without choking.

This page lists the production-grade Apify actors NexGenData ships for Asian markets. Global hedge funds covering APAC, MNC corporate development teams scoping JV partners, sourcing managers building Alibaba/Made-in-China supplier shortlists, recruiters targeting Singapore tech talent, journalists tracking HK insider deals, and China-focused equity analysts all use these. Pay-per-event pricing — typically a few cents per company, filing, or listing. No subscriptions, no per-seat licenses, no procurement cycle.

If you’ve ever tried to scrape Eastmoney yourself you know the problems: dynamic encryption tokens on every request, anti-bot interstitials that flip on at random, pagination that silently caps at 20 pages while pretending there are 200, response payloads that mix Big5, GB18030, and UTF-8 in the same document. We’ve spent thousands of hours getting these edge cases right so you don’t have to. Same story for HKEX disclosures (PDF + iXBRL hybrid filings), Singapore BizFile+ (anti-scraping rotation behind Cloudflare), India MCA (geographically restricted CAPTCHA), and Japanese EDINET (the only filing system in the world that still requires a SOAP envelope to query the index).

Common use cases

  • Track China A-share fundamentals without a Wind subscription — Eastmoney screener gives you Shanghai + Shenzhen quotes, P/E, dividend yield, sector classification on demand.
  • Source Singapore-incorporated companies for fund formation — ACRA / BizFile+ lookup by UEN, directors, paid-up capital.
  • Monitor Indian MCA-equivalent filings for due diligence — OGD India Companies Master Data + SEBI DRHP/RHP/SAST takeover tracker.
  • Track HK property transactions for real estate research — Land Registry caveats with consideration, address, and date.
  • Build a JD.com or Made-in-China competitive intel feed — product titles, prices, seller, ratings, review counts.
  • Surface Xiaohongshu (RedNote) trends for consumer brand research — trending notes, hashtags, engagement deltas day-over-day.
  • Run a pan-APAC IPO calendar — single feed combining HKEX, SGX, NSE/BSE, TSE, Bursa, IDX, PSE, SET listings + lockup expiries.
  • Monitor HKEX insider trades and short interest — director dealings + weekly short positions in one CSV.
  • Track Japanese 5% beneficial-ownership disclosures — EDINET large-shareholder reports + buyback notifications.
  • Detect Chinese consumer sentiment shifts — Weibo hot search + Douyin trending + Zhihu Q&A combined into a single trend indicator.

More market-specific screeners (TWSE Taiwan, SGX Singapore, BSE India, TSE Japan, HKEX Hang Seng, HOSE Vietnam, SET Thailand, Bursa Malaysia, IDX Indonesia, PSE Philippines, Tadawul Saudi, Shenzhen ChiNext, Shanghai STAR Market, Beijing Stock Exchange, Chinese ADRs) plus HK Trademark Search, Singapore URA, MAS Financial Institutions, CNIPA China Patents, MagicBricks India, Naukri India, and Weibo/Douyin/Zhihu/Xiaohongshu trackers are in the NexGenData store — some are in private beta while we finalise inputs; check the store for current status.

Workflow example: building a pan-APAC stock screener

You’re an analyst on a global long/short desk and you cover APAC. Every morning you want one CSV that shows the top 50 movers across Hang Seng, mainland A-shares, SGX STI, NSE Nifty, and KOSPI — normalised to USD, with a one-line catalyst note from the relevant trend tracker. Here’s the rough recipe.

  1. Pull HK quotes — run HKEX Insider & Short Tracker for overnight director dealings, and the Hang Seng screener for closing quotes.
  2. Pull mainland A-shares — run Eastmoney for SSE + SZSE closing prices, then China A-Share Insider Trades for overnight 高管增减持.
  3. Pull SGX — Singapore STI quotes via the SGX screener.
  4. Pull NSENSE India Screener for Nifty 50 constituents.
  5. Pull KOSPIKOSPI screener for closing quotes.
  6. Layer in sentimentChina Trends Tracker for any A-share or HK name appearing in Weibo / Baidu top 50, plus EDINET for any 5% filings on names in your Japan book.
  7. Normalise to USD — pull spot FX from any free feed, multiply, sort by absolute % move.
  8. Output — single CSV, push to Slack or Google Sheets by 7am SGT. Total Apify spend at scale: a few dollars per morning.

Why we focus on Asia

Asian markets are systematically undercovered by Western data aggregators. Bloomberg, FactSet, and S&P Capital IQ have decent coverage of mega-caps but thin coverage of mid-caps, weak coverage of mainland Chinese fundamentals, and minimal coverage of consumer-data platforms (Xiaohongshu, Douyin, Bilibili). The language barrier — Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Bahasa, Vietnamese — acts as a moat, and most US-based scrapers either skip these markets or ship broken extractors that miss half the fields.

NexGenData is bilingual by default. Our China scrapers handle Simplified Chinese natively, our HK scrapers handle Traditional Chinese, our Japan scrapers handle the full-width / half-width katakana mess that breaks naive Python pipelines. We also publish Chinese-language tutorials so mainland analysts can actually use the tools — see the related reading below. The roadmap over the next two quarters is heavy on APAC: deeper HK property analytics, ChiNext biotech screeners, fuller India SEBI disclosure coverage, EDINET 5%-rule alerts, and a unified pan-APAC equity warehouse that joins quotes, fundamentals, insider trades, and short interest on a single key.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to read Chinese to use these tools?

No. All actor inputs and outputs are documented in English on the Apify Store, with English field names in the JSON output. The source data is in Chinese where the source is Chinese — for example, a mainland company name will appear as “腾讯控股” — but the structure is English and you can pipe it into any translation service if needed. Our Chinese-language tutorial exists for mainland Chinese analysts who prefer to read documentation in their native language.

How do you handle the Great Firewall?

Mainland Chinese sources (Eastmoney, Weibo, JD.com, Bilibili, Xiaohongshu, Douyin, Zhihu) are reachable from outside mainland China — they are not blocked outbound; the Great Firewall blocks inbound traffic to mainland users, not outbound traffic from these sites. Our scrapers run on Apify infrastructure (US/EU regions by default) and pull cleanly. For platforms with stricter bot detection (Xiaohongshu, WBI-signed Bilibili endpoints), we handle signature generation in the actor.

How current is the data?

Every actor pulls live data on each run. Stock quotes are typically end-of-day (or 15-minute delayed where the exchange enforces that). Property and corporate filings reflect the source registry as of run time — usually same-day for HK Land Registry and SG HDB, T+1 for India MCA, real-time for HKEX disclosures. Schedule the actor as often as you need; Apify supports per-minute scheduling on paid plans.

Can I get historical timeseries?

For quotes and screener outputs, yes — schedule the actor daily and accumulate the dataset to build your own timeseries. For native historical pulls (e.g., 10 years of HDB resale prices, 5 years of HKEX IPOs), several actors accept a date-range input. Check the input schema on the actor’s Apify Store page.

What about Japan-specific reporting like EDINET?

Yes — our Japan EDINET Insider Filings actor pulls 5%-rule large-shareholder reports and buyback notifications from disclosure.edinet-fsa.go.jp. Output includes filer name (in both Japanese and romaji where available), target ticker, shares acquired/disposed, percent change, and filing date.

Coverage of Hong Kong listings vs. mainland-only?

Separate actors. Hong Kong-listed companies (Main Board + GEM, including A→H secondary listings) are covered by the HKEX suite — IPO calendar, insider trades, short interest, SFC enforcement. Mainland-only A-shares (SSE + SZSE + ChiNext + STAR Market + Beijing Stock Exchange) are covered by the Eastmoney screener and the China A-Share insider tracker. Chinese ADRs listed on NYSE/NASDAQ have their own dedicated screener. If you want all three (HK + mainland + ADR) for one Chinese conglomerate, run all three and join on company name.

Can I compare across markets in one dataset?

Yes. The APAC IPO Calendar Sweep already normalises across HKEX, SGX, NSE/BSE, TSE, Bursa, IDX, PSE, and SET into a single schema. For quotes, you’ll need to run each market’s screener and union the outputs — see the workflow example above. Field names are consistent across our equity screeners (ticker, name, price, market_cap_local, market_cap_usd, sector) so the union is trivial in pandas.

What does pricing look like?

Every actor is pay-per-event on the Apify platform — typically fractions of a cent per company, filing, listing, or post. A full daily sweep across all major APAC exchanges runs to single-digit dollars. Compared to a Bloomberg APAC seat at ~USD $24,000/year, the ROI math is straightforward.
