Browser Extensions for Analysts, Researchers, and Operators

Reading Time: 5 minutes

Coming soon: lightweight Chrome and Edge extensions that put NexGenData’s public-data tools one click away β€” inside the page you’re already reading.

What’s coming

The NexGenData browser extension fleet is a thin UX layer over the same actor catalog that powers the standalone tools on Apify. Instead of leaving your current tab to spin up a scraper, you’ll click an icon in your browser toolbar and pull registry data, sanctions hits, funding history, or verified contacts straight from the company website, LinkedIn profile, or news article in front of you. The same actors keep doing the work β€” companies-house-officers, contact-info-scraper, sanctions feeds, YC and Crunchbase scrapers β€” but the friction of context-switching disappears. Read a page, enrich it, decide whether to dig deeper, all without breaking flow. Built first for Chrome and Edge (Chromium-based); Firefox to follow once we lock the API surface; Safari is unlikely in the first wave.

Why a browser extension and not just the standalone tools

The standalone Apify actors are the right tool when you have a list β€” a thousand domains to enrich, a region of companies to pull, a recurring sanctions sweep. They’re the wrong tool when you’re in the middle of reading something and a single question lands: does this company have a regulatory action against it? who actually owns it? has it raised money? do I have a contact there? Right now answering each of those means leaving the page, opening a tab, pasting a URL or company name, waiting for a run, copying the result back. The browser extensions collapse that loop into a single click in the page you’re already on.

  • No copy-paste between tools. The page URL and visible company context are already in the DOM β€” the extension grabs them, sends them to the relevant actor, and renders the result in a sidebar.
  • In-context enrichment. See the registry record, sanctions screen, and contact list next to the company page you’re qualifying, not in a different tab.
  • Fits inside your existing workflow. No new dashboard to log into. Works inside HubSpot, Salesforce, LinkedIn, news sites, search results β€” anywhere your research already happens.
  • Single-click lookups. One keystroke instead of a five-step copy-paste-paste-wait-paste cycle.
  • Same per-result economics. Pricing is still pay-per-lookup against the underlying actors β€” no SaaS markup for being inside the browser.

Extensions in the roadmap

Six extensions are in the design and prototype queue. None have shipped yet β€” the ordering below reflects current priority, not release order.

1. Contact Extractor Sidebar

What it does: One click on any company website pulls every public email, phone number, and social handle found across the domain into a sidebar you can copy or push to your CRM. Highlights named contacts (founder, head of sales) when they’re discoverable.
Calls: contact-info-scraper, website-contact-extractor.
For: SDRs, recruiters, agency outbound teams who qualify dozens of company sites a day.

2. Company Intelligence Sidebar

What it does: Reads the company name from the page you’re on and returns the official registry record β€” directors, officers, beneficial owners, registered address, incorporation date, filing history. UK first, EU and APAC registries to follow.
Calls: uk-companies-house-officers, plus the wider registry actor family.
For: investors, KYC analysts, journalists, due-diligence teams.

3. Regulatory Lookup Tool

What it does: Run any company or individual name against FCA (UK), ASIC (AU), and OFAC sanctions lists in one shot. Flags matches with the underlying enforcement notice or list entry so you can verify before acting.
Calls: FCA register actor, ASIC enforcement actor, OFAC sanctions actor.
For: compliance officers, AML teams, fintech onboarding, anyone doing reputational screens.

4. Startup Research Sidebar

What it does: On a startup’s website or LinkedIn page, surface the YC batch (if any), Crunchbase funding rounds, total raised, lead investors, and recent news mentions. Built for “is this worth a meeting?” speed.
Calls: YC scraper, Crunchbase funding actors, news-feed scrapers.
For: VC associates, founders doing competitive scans, BD teams sizing partner targets.

5. Lead List Builder

What it does: Apollo-style list building from inside Google search results, LinkedIn search pages, or directory sites. Select visible companies or profiles, push them to a list, batch-enrich in the background, export to CSV or your sequencer.
Calls: the lead-generation actor family β€” Google Maps lead scraper, LinkedIn jobs, Apollo-alternative actors.
For: outbound SDR teams, founders running their own sales motion, agencies billing for lead delivery.

6. Market Intelligence Monitor

What it does: Set a watchlist of companies or tickers. The extension pings you when a new PR Newswire release, earnings transcript, SEC filing, or competitor product page changes. Reads like a Bloomberg headline ticker but for the public web.
Calls: PR Newswire scraper, earnings-transcript actor, SEC filings actors, change-monitoring actors.
For: analysts, investor-relations teams, competitive-intel functions.

Pricing model preview

The likely model is freemium: a limited number of free lookups per day per extension (enough for casual research), and an unlimited paid tier billed monthly or pooled across a team. Heavy users will also be able to bring their own Apify account and pay only the underlying actor cost. Exact thresholds and pricing are TBD β€” we’d rather get the workflow right with early users than lock numbers in before the extensions ship. Waitlist members will see pricing first and get founding-user discounts on the paid tiers.

Frequently asked questions

When will the extensions launch?

No firm date. The first private beta β€” most likely Contact Extractor or Company Intelligence β€” is in design. Public Chrome Web Store releases will follow once the auth and quota layer is stable. Waitlist members get early access ahead of public listing, and we’d rather ship one extension that works well than six that don’t.

Do I need an Apify account to use them?

No β€” the default mode runs the underlying actors on our infrastructure and you pay NexGenData. A “bring your own Apify key” mode will also be supported for power users who want to consolidate billing or use private actor builds; in that mode you pay only the underlying actor cost on your own Apify account.

Will they work in Edge and Firefox?

Edge is a yes β€” it shares the Chromium extension API, so anything that ships to the Chrome Web Store will work in Edge with no changes. Firefox is planned for a second wave once the Manifest V3 surface stabilises and demand from the waitlist justifies the parallel codebase.

What about Safari?

Safari extensions require a separate Xcode build, Apple Developer membership, and App Store review β€” meaningful overhead for what is currently a small slice of professional-research browser share. We’ll watch waitlist signal but Safari is unlikely in the first year.

Is my data private?

The extensions read the active page’s visible context (URL, company name, the part you’re looking at) only when you click the toolbar icon β€” there is no background page scraping, no continuous DOM monitoring, no behavioural tracking. Lookups go straight to the corresponding Apify actor and the result returns to your browser. We log lookup counts for billing; we do not log or store the underlying page content. The privacy policy will be published with each extension’s Chrome Web Store listing.

Can I trial before paying?

Yes. The freemium tier exists exactly for that β€” a generous daily lookup quota with zero credit card, enough to evaluate whether the extension fits your workflow before any paid commitment. Waitlist members will additionally get an extended-trial code at launch.
