Free 10/day technology stack detection — and a $0.005-per-site API tier for batch lead-gen and competitive intelligence workflows. The replacement for Wappalyzer Pro and BuiltWith Pro that doesn’t require a $149-995/month seat.
Wappalyzer was the de-facto free browser extension for detecting which technologies a website runs on. In 2023 the founder paywalled the API and bumped the subscription minimum to $149/month per seat, with enterprise tiers reaching $3,000/month. BuiltWith Pro is in the same ballpark — $295-995/month. For sales SDRs running ICP-fit checks across hundreds of prospects, or competitive-intel analysts profiling market share by technology, the per-seat pricing model is structurally wrong.
NexGenData’s Tech Stack Detector runs the same fingerprint methodology — actually, an open-source-backed library covering 2,500+ technologies — and charges per site scanned. The first 10 lookups per day are free.
Try the free tier
Enter a URL below. The detector returns the technologies in use, organized by category. 10 free lookups per day per IP, no sign-up required. For batch / API access, use the Apify actor.

Use cases
Sales SDR — ICP qualification
Your TAM model says you sell best to companies on Shopify Plus + Klaviyo. Pull 5,000 Shopify stores from the Shopify Store Analyzer, run tech-stack detection on each, filter to the ~600 that match the full ICP. Total cost: $25 in tech-stack detection vs $995/month BuiltWith Pro for the same scan, plus the Shopify pull is metered too.
Competitive intelligence — market-share by category
You’re launching a CDP. You need to estimate market share of incumbent CDPs (Segment, mParticle, Tealium, Adobe AEP) across the Fortune 5000. Pull the company list, scan tech stack across all, aggregate by CDP detection. Output: defensible market-share numbers for board decks and pricing decisions.
Investor research — technology adoption signal
You’re tracking adoption of a public-company technology (say, Datadog’s APM) across mid-market SaaS companies. Build a panel of 2,000 target sites, run weekly tech-stack scans, regress detection rate against the company’s revenue growth. Adoption-leading indicator data feeds your long/short thesis.
Lead-list enrichment — at-scale
Pair the Tech Stack Detector with the Lead List Enricher for end-to-end ICP qualification. Input: company-name list. Output: domain + tech stack + employee count + email format pattern. Replaces a Datanyze + Apollo + Clearbit stack at a fraction of the cost.

Frequently asked questions
How accurate is the detection?
Detection runs against a fingerprint library of 2,500+ web technologies (CMS, ecommerce platforms, analytics, ad tech, JavaScript frameworks, server software, CDNs, marketing tools, etc.). Accuracy is comparable to Wappalyzer Pro on most categories; weakest detection is for server-side technologies hidden behind reverse proxies.
Why is this cheaper than Wappalyzer Pro and BuiltWith?
Wappalyzer Pro charges $149-3000/month for a seat-based subscription regardless of usage. BuiltWith Pro is $295-995/month. The NexGenData Tech Stack Detector charges per site scanned — typically $0.005 per detection. For an SDR team scanning 500 sites/month, that’s ~$2.50 vs $149 minimum. For a sales operation scanning 10,000/month, $50 vs $995.
Does the free tier require sign-up?
The free tier allows 10 lookups per day per IP, no sign-up required. The paid API tier (via Apify) requires only a free Apify account.
Can I filter by tech stack in lead-generation workflows?
Yes — pair with the Lead List Enricher actor to detect tech stack across thousands of companies in batch. Filter for prospects matching your ICP (e.g., ‘companies on Shopify Plus + Klaviyo + Stripe’ for a Shopify-adjacent SaaS). The Wappalyzer Replacement + Lead List Enricher combination replaces a full Datanyze workflow at 10% of the cost.
How is detection done?
The actor fetches the target URL (Playwright-rendered for SPA accuracy), inspects HTTP headers, response cookies, HTML markup, inline scripts, external script src patterns, and meta tags. The fingerprint library matches all these signals against known technologies. CSP-protected sites are detected via header analysis only.
Does this detect server-side technologies?
Server-side detection is limited to what’s exposed via HTTP headers (X-Powered-By, Server, CDN headers) and well-known fingerprints. For deep server-side intel use the DNS Records + WHOIS Replacement + IP Geolocation actors in combination.
